THE MODULAR AI APPROACH
Through AI algorithms and deep learning, BSB AI modules can identify objects, detect critical situations even in a rough environment, and automatically derive and implement a decision. It can be modified for various applications such as:
Autonomous navigation
The system detects and identifies all floating objects drifting or navigating at sea and assesses the risk of collision in real time. It instantly carries out an avoidance maneuver. Find out more at oscar-system.com
Behaviour detection and risk evaluation
Automated park ranger notification for immediate action; Off-grid energy system identifying abnormal behavior for Port Cros Marine Park
Selective object handling
Distinguished elimination of weed whilst collecting further data of crop plants for the agricultural sector – i.e. row planting.

CASES

Port Cros Marine Park
An energy self-sufficient visual system that identifies suspicious behavior and informs the park rangers for immediate action.

OSCAR
OSCAR technology is based on an embedded RGB and thermal camera system coupled with artificial vision and data analyzing algorithms. It identifies floating objects at sea and automatically navigates around them.

Row planting
Current Study: Mounted on your vehicle the system can distinguish weed from crop plants and automatically give an impulse to eliminate it.
Company
BSB Artificial Intelligence GmbH (short BSB AI) is
a machine vision and artificial intelligence company based in Austria, France and (via its sister company) in Portugal.
BSB AI was founded in 2017 and has a current headcount of 18.
BSB AI’s first product is called OSCAR – an automated collision avoidance system for ships.
THE TEAM
The team consists of various experts in UI & Software Development, Engineer for robotics and microsystems, Automation Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering, Design Engineering, Prototyping, Concept Design, Project Management and Organisation. It is situated in Austria (competence center for data science, automation and prototyping – consisting of 10 people), France (competence center for requirements engineering and sales & support – consisting of 3 people) and Portugal (competence centre for test automation, data handling & annotation and UI development – consisting of 5 people).

Raphael Biancale
CEO, CTO and BSB AI’s Mastermind
Raphael has had the idea for OSCAR on a long and tough sailing trip from the Mediterranean Sea to the Cape Verde Islands.
He has studied mathematics and physics in France and holds a degree in automotive engineering from Munich University of applied sciences and has 10+ years of experience in automotive engineering.
At BSB AI, Raphael is the majority owner and is managing human resources, R&D, and manufacturing.
Since 2003, Gaëtan has been managing Mer & Projets, a French company specializing in ocean racing. Mid 2018 he became partner in BSB Marine S.A., a company in south Brittany (France) in the heart of the international sailboat racing scene. BSB Marine’s mission is to increase safety at sea, especially in ocean racing.
Convinced that innovation and advances in artificial intelligence can meet the safety needs of a whole world, he decided to invest in and join BSB Marine and contribute to its development.
